Soundscape

The Bethune-polder is a Dutch polder which is divided in equal parts of 200x200m surrounded by large drainage ditches. This strictly organised squareness is easy to see on a map. But once you are in the landscape itself this cultivation is difficult to experience because several smaller ditches run through the polder.

To stress this organised Dutch cultivation we invented a soundscape. If you cycle 15 m/h through the polder you hear the rustling of the tree leaves every 30 seconds. That's because we have planted a Populus tremula every twohundred meter in the corners of the drainage ditch.
